Segesta has a fascinating name and its charm is due to his story and to his archeological site.. The legend and the myth attribute her fantastic origins, but historical researches claim that the Elimi founded the city before the destruction of Troja in the twelfth century B.C:. Time seems to stop inside the cyclopic walls that with Erice, Castellamare in the Gulf and Selinunte formed the triangle of the ancient population of Western Sicily.

Segesta was thev first city of western Sicily to be inhabited by the Elimi , who came from Middle east. Segesta fought against Siracusa (V century B.C:), was ally with Carthagine versus Selinunte in the first Punic war, and then she underwent the Roman dominance. In the middle Ages segesta was destroyed by the Vandals and then by the saracens, and then she was heard no more of.the ancient city was placed on the highland of Barbaro Mount, in a strategic position so as to dominate the valleys till Castellamare in the Gulf which was considered (as it was a harbour) the Segestan trade market.
